Home portraits are a wonderful way to celebrate your home’s unique character. There are special qualities that make a house a home, a favorite place to visit, or a place of cherished memories. The translation of line and color into form and feeling allow the artist to capture much more than a photograph can.

As a gift for yourself or for a loved one, a home portrait is a wonderful way to commemorate a milestone or preserve family history, becoming a keepsake that can be enjoyed for generations.

For commercial clients such as Bed and Breakfasts, specialty shops or historic sites, a home portrait can be invaluable in marketing and promoting your business. A custom pen and ink drawing can be a great way to illustrate your business for brochures, advertisements, cards and flyers. And either a painting or drawing would look great on your website.

Paintings are done in acrylic, on either canvas or masonite. When it is finished it looks like an oil painting, yet the acrylic, unlike oil, is not prone to cracking or yellowing as it ages. My technique is meticulous and detailed, very rich in texture.

Drawings are done in pen and ink, or if you prefer, pencil. Pencil has the advantage of being able to show subtle shades of grey and therefore more textural detail. Pen and ink, however, has the advantage of richer contrast and can be seen clearly from a greater distance. This is advantageous if you would like to see the drawing easily from across the room. Ink also is much easier to reproduce clearly. This is a better choice if you want use the drawing for your letterheads, brochures or other promotions. Drawings are done on artist quality, acid-free paper or illustration board.

To draw or paint a portrait of your home or business, I will need to have a number of photographs of your house or building. I can either work from photos that you supply, or for an additional fee I can come and take photographs myself.

If you plan to provide your own photographs, I have a small packet that explains the best way to photograph your home that I can provide to you free of charge.

Remember, the portrait can only be as good as the photographs upon which it is based. So good, clear photography is important.

When you are ready to commission a portrait of your home or business, please contact me for a consultation either by phone or e-mail. A 50% non-refundable deposit will be required before the portrait is started. Once the photos and deposit are received, I will begin the portrait. Please allow 4 weeks for completion of a drawing and 8-12 weeks for completion of a painting. When the portrait is ready, I will contact you and make arrangements for delivery. The balance is due at this time.

Travel, mileage, photographic, shipping and other expenses are additional and will be billed separately.
